WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?
If over-the-counter skin treatments are no longer proving effective, but you aren't ready for surgical procedures, consider nonsurgical skin rejuvenation treatments, such as microneedling. Our team is happy to offer microneedling (collagen induction therapy) using the innovative Rejuvapen® at our office in Anchorage, AK. The Rejuvapen uses many fine-gauge needles to safely and effectively create micro-injuries in the skin. The micro-injuries trigger the body's natural production of elastin and collagen, two nutrients that contribute to the health and appearance of your complexion. Make an appointment for a consultation at Alaska Med Spa & Chiropractic to hear more about the results of microneedling and ways to customize your treatment for your needs and goals.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MICRONEEDLING?
Even minor skin problems can leave you feeling self-conscious. You don't have to put up with these issues forever, though. Microneedling can help you feel better about your appearance and improve your self-esteem. Patients at Alaska Med Spa & Chiropractic often benefit in the following ways:
Quick treatment: A microneedling session only takes about 60 minutes from start to finish.
Long-lasting: The results of microneedling can last for months or even years with touch-up treatments.
Affordable: Microneedling is a cost-effective alternative to more expensive cosmetic procedures like surgery.
Customizable: Treatment can be personalized to address your specific skin concerns.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR MICRONEEDLING?
You could benefit from microneedling if you experience slight or mild skin problems, like a decrease in elasticity or rough skin texture. Collagen induction therapy treatments can also improve the look of pores, stretch marks, and scars. You must be willing to wait a while before seeing the results of your microneedling treatment because the collagen and elastin require a month or longer to impact the skin, but you will see natural-looking results and gain healthier, stronger skin.
HOW DOES MICRONEEDLING WORK?
It's possible you may benefit from microneedling treatments if you have slight or moderate complexion problems, like rough skin texture or low elasticity. Microneedling procedures can also minimize the appearance of scars, pores, and stretch marks. A microneedling treatment with the Rejuvapen is completed in around 30 – 60 minutes with local anesthesia or numbing cream if preferred. The skin being addressed will be cleansed before the handpiece is evenly passed over. After the microneedling is complete, a treatment, like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or a serum with a vitamin infusion, may be applied so the nutrients can penetrate deeper into the skin. A moisturizer will be massaged in along with UV protection because your skin will be more sensitive after the treatment.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MICRONEEDLING?
Following the procedure, you can experience some redness and swelling for about a day, but this should fade quickly on its own. It can take around 1 – 2 months as the elastin and collagen supply increases until you notice significant changes in the appearance and health of your treated skin. You should schedule around 4 – 6 maintenance sessions every 4 – 6 weeks for the best outcomes and long-lasting skin health.

Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure to improve the health of your skin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps your skin stay supple, smooth, and firm. As you get older, your supply of collagen is depleted, and your skin gets thin and less elastic. Microneedling causes small wounds on your skin. These micro-injuries force your skin to generate new skin cell growth and increase collagen production. After a short recovery period, your skin looks brighter, firmer, and healthier.Description text goes here

Yes, you can. During the process of microneedling, channels are made that help other treatments penetrate the deeper layers. This is why microneedling is often combined with other treatments, like special serums or PRP (platelet-rich plasma). Microneedling with PRP is often called the Vampire Facial®. In your initial consultation, we can talk about what treatments would enhance your microneedling and which best fit your skin goals.

Typically, patients need 3 – 6 microneedling treatments to get optimal results. Although, how many sessions you need will vary based on your goals and the condition of your skin. Microneedling may be done every 4 – 6 weeks as needed. During your consultation, we will estimate how many sessions you might want after assessing your skin and listening to your goals. Once you have reached your goal, we suggest scheduling maintenance treatments about twice a year.

In general, microneedling is safe for all skin types and tones. Since the skin injuries created are so small, there are usually no side effects afterward. Microneedling can be applied to most skin areas, including the arms, face, neck, chest, thighs, and calves. Microneedling is not recommended if you have taken Accutane within the last 2 – 3 months, as well as if you have an active skin infection, open wound, or herpes simplex. Additionally, you may not be able to get microneedling if you're nursing, pregnant, or undergoing radiation treatments.
